Meet Krista Beehler
Through Kind Spirit Kids, I am excited to continue sharing a vast and exstensive list of resources, activities and methods with parents and children all over the world, promoting a connected, mindful, and enriched approach to learning and parenting.
My story...
I was born and raised in Niagara Falls, Ontario. My academic pursuits led me to Western Ontario, where I acquired a degree in sociology and educational psychology. It was during these transformative years that I was introduced to the concept of attachment parenting—a philosophy that would later play a pivotal role in my own family’s life.
As a child, I was always surrounded by a nurturing environment. My grandmother owned and operated a local day-care, and my mom is a dedicated professional in public health, working as an infant mental health therapist. This early exposure to child development shaped my perception and interest in childcare.
Post-graduation, I found myself teaching kindergarten at a private school in Ontario for over 3 wonderful years. I cherished this experience, eagerly participating in workshops to bring fresh ideas into my classroom, fostering an enriching learning environment for my young learners.
Then life offered me an exciting opportunity—teaching English in China for a year. This leap of faith took me far outside my comfort zone, leading to immense personal and professional growth. I continued to travel to several countries in Asia while embarking on my own journey of self-awareness and mindfulness.
Upon my return from China, life took me to Toronto where I met the love of my life. The birth of our daughter marked the beginning of our journey into attachment-style parenting—a decision that led to the inception of my first business, CAMPS by Krista. My mission became to assist others who lived a mindful lifestyle transition seamlessly into parenting, fostering a life of connection from the very beginning.
As our family grew with the birth of our son and our daughter reaching school age, we decided to embark on the homeschooling path. We soon realized this was the perfect fit for our family, aligning with our lifestyle and values. As the years continued, CAMPS by Krista became Mighty Minds, a program focused on healthy emotional development for kids.
At the onset of the pandemic, we sought a simpler, more affordable lifestyle, which led us to Saint John, New Brunswick, on Canada's east coast. Our journey into homeschooling naturally evolved into unschooling, prompting me to re-launch my program with a fresh name, Kind Spirit Kids, initially as an offering to the local homeschooling community.
The program blossomed, sparking an overwhelming urge to share it with more children. While initially hesitant about providing this program in a virtual environment, I decided to give it a go with a 10-week trial run involving six kids. Despite the new format, it retained its power and effectiveness—proving that connection and learning are not bound by physical spaces, and actually can be a safer space to share feelings.
Through Kind Spirit Kids I am excited to continue sharing our philosophy and methods with parents and children all over the world, promoting a connected, mindful, and enriched approach to learning and parenting.
